By Arda Şardağ · Reviewed 09 October 2026

SHORT ANSWER

Applications are filed with APCI, which collects reports from intelligence, financial and security agencies and sends a recommendation to the National Directorate of Migration (DNM). DNM decides within 30 business days. The official document list has not been published; applicants should expect to provide identity and civil documents, police certificates and source-of-funds evidence, apostilled and translated into Spanish.

Step by step

  1. Pre-assessment: family structure, investment option and documentability of funds. Most outcomes are decided here.
  2. Document collection: civil and police records, apostilled in the issuing country and translated into Spanish.
  3. Filing with APCI.
  4. Agency reports: intelligence services, Financial Information Unit (UIF), Ministries of Security and the Interior.
  5. Recommendation: APCI recommends approval or refusal to DNM.
  6. Decision: DNM decides within 30 business days.
  7. Identity documents: the national identity card (DNI) and passport are issued by the National Registry of Persons (RENAPER).

At which stage the investment is made (before filing, during review or after approval) has not yet been announced.

Apostille and translation

Argentina is party to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention. Documents from other member states need an apostille; documents from non-member states need consular legalisation. Documents must be translated into Spanish; whether translations must be done by an Argentine certified translator will be confirmed by implementing rules.

Reasons for refusal

The stated aim of the review is to ensure that granting citizenship poses no risk to national security or state interests. Unexplained funds, criminal records, adverse media, sanctions exposure and inconsistent declarations all increase refusal risk.
