In the January 2026 Henley Passport Index, the Argentine passport gives visa-free, visa-on-arrival or ETA access to 169 destinations, placing it around 16th in the world and among the strongest in Latin America. Argentines travel visa-free to the Schengen Area and Ireland, enter the UK with an ETA, and travel visa-free to Japan, South Korea and Singapore. The United States, Australia and Canada (unless holding a US visa) still require a visa.

Mercosur rights
As a founding Mercosur member, Argentina's citizens can obtain simplified residence and work rights in Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay and associated states including Chile, Peru, Colombia and Ecuador. See Mercosur residence rights.
A shortcut to Spain
Spain lets nationals of Ibero-American countries, including Argentina, apply for Spanish citizenship after two years of legal residence instead of ten. See the Spain route.
What could change
Since 30 December 2025, the EU can suspend visa-free access for countries that operate citizenship by investment schemes. This was first aimed at the Caribbean. The rule applies in principle to Argentina too. The Commission's criticism of Caribbean programmes focused on low refusal rates and very high volumes; Argentina's multi-agency vetting is the main safeguard for the passport's long-term value.
