Argentina's citizenship by investment programme was announced on 2 October 2026 in Paris. The main applicant either makes a non-refundable USD 350,000 contribution to the National Treasury or invests USD 800,000 in a special government bond. A spouse adds USD 100,000, each child aged 18–25 adds USD 100,000 and each child under 18 adds USD 25,000. There is no residence requirement. Applications are reviewed by the Agency for Citizenship by Investment Programmes (APCI) and decided by the National Directorate of Migration (DNM). Applications are expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2026.
How the programme was announced
Economy Minister Luis Caputo and Chief of Cabinet Diego Santilli presented the programme on 2 October 2026 at the Argentina Week event in Paris. The legal groundwork had been laid earlier: Emergency Decree 366/2025, published on 29 May 2025, added citizenship by "relevant investment" to Citizenship Law 346 and created APCI. Decree 524/2025 set out the application procedure. The Paris announcement added the figures that had been missing.

In the government's own example, a family of four (main applicant, spouse and two minor children) contributes USD 500,000 under the treasury option. Family amounts for the bond option have not been published. See our cost guide for every family combination.
Due diligence: APCI and partner agencies
Under Decree 524/2025, the procedure runs as follows:
- The application is filed with APCI, a decentralised agency under the Ministry of Economy.
- APCI requests reports from the intelligence services, the Financial Information Unit (UIF), and the Ministries of Security and the Interior.
- Based on those reports, APCI issues a recommendation to the National Directorate of Migration (DNM).
- DNM grants or refuses citizenship within 30 business days.
Argentina has said the review will follow OECD and FATF recommendations. It will cover identity, the source and legality of funds, financial and asset profile, country risk, criminal record, reputation and immigration history.
Who can apply
The programme is not restricted by nationality. What decides an application is the ability to pass due diligence: a clean record, a lawful and documented source of funds, and no adverse reputational findings.
Residence and tax
There is no residence or minimum-stay requirement. According to the announced framework, acquiring citizenship through the programme does not on its own make an investor tax resident in Argentina. Argentina permits dual citizenship. See citizenship and tax.
Industry involvement
In May 2026 a consortium named AMIGO, made up of Latitude, AIM Global, Apex Capital Partners, Arton Capital and Passport Legacy, signed a technical cooperation agreement with APCI to support the programme's design.
What is still unknown
- The exact opening date
- Official forms and document list
- Government and due diligence fees
- Overall processing time
- Maturity, yield and family amounts of the USD 800,000 bond
- Whether applications must go through licensed agents
The programme rests on an emergency decree (DNU). In Argentina, DNUs are subject to congressional review, and the validity of Decree 366/2025 has been challenged in court. This has not stopped the programme, but the legal position should be checked before any application.
